Fairway Woods and Rescue Clubs
Fairway woods
A common misconception with fairway woods is that they need to be hit on the start of the upswing. Due to their wide soled design, the idea is a downward strike at the lowest point of the swing. This allows the loft of the club to do its job to control the ball’s trajectory. So no more flicking with the right hand trying to get the ball airbourne. Ball position is therefore key. Try to put the ball 2 ball widths more central in your stance than where you position a driver.

DRILL – Put a ball on a tee and then put another tee in the ground 2inches towards the target. Strike the ball, but also aim to take the second tee out of the ground. This should help you not only keep the clubface pointing to the target for longer but also make a more descending rather than lifting action through impact.
