Tee Shots

We all want to see a straight 300+yard drive bouncing down the middle of the fairway but it is often this very ambition that causes us to hit the big high slice or the low duck hook.

Try to control your swing with the rotation of your upper body.

A solid base at the set-up, with the fundamentals of grip and posture also correct, from which you are then able to wind and unwind your torso. Improving the efficiency of this body action is the key to maximising the forces that accelerate your arms, hands and ultimately the club head through the ball.

If you tie a weight to the end of a piece of string and start to spin it, you will notice that as you move your wrist in a circular motion, the weight moves faster and faster. This is simply down to centrifugal force.

The midsection of the body generates the centrifugal forces that accelerate the arms, hands and club head away from the centre giving more club head speed.

The more efficiently you rotate the 'centre' (i.e. your hand when swinging the weight on the end of a string, your body 'core' when swinging a golf club), the more centrifugal force you generate.

When this is combined with a properly released club head you will be looking at another 5-10% on your drive lengths.

Drill

Try holding the club head and swinging the shaft to feel, and hear, how the correct sequencing speeds up the club head.
